Train of Thought

Dust of Snow by Robert Forst

The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree

Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

Blog # 1 The meaning of food

Food is defined as any substance containing nutrients, such as carbohydrates, proteins and fats, that can be ingested by a living organism and metabolized into energy and body tissue related. Food is always the number one needs for any living thing on mother earth; for plants, and animals, food is just a daily needs to transfer energy into their body and to help them stay alive. However, for human being, food is not only our daily needs to survive; food is art, desire, passion and enjoyment. Some people eats to satisfy their hunger, and some people eats for fun. Food is a form of art, desire, passion and enjoyment for me.

Food is designed the same way as anything designed in an art class. I love cooking and creating my own recipe. As a regular cook, people can just cook and serve, but I like to design the food before serve. For an example, I cooked some dishes for my family and one of then was chicken, as I cooked the chicken, I added some green pepper, red pepper, onion, carrot, and some broccoli because it make the chicken look nice and colorful. If food looks nice and neat when it’s served, people automatically have the appetites to eat.

Food is great and food is everywhere. This world is all about food. I desire food, which turns into enjoyment. When I am out in the city, the first thing I wouldn’t miss before I head home is getting something. There are so many restaurants that are available with so many items of food. I feel as if food are just magically made for me. People would go to the restaurants that have the best food with a great service. I take my family out to eat not only because no one feels like cooking or to satisfy our hunger, but to enjoy. You wont like food until you feel it.

In my experience, I have examined the difference between the people who loves food and who don’t. As a man I would say that I am a real good cook because, what ever I cook, I cook with passion. My passion for food makes what ever I cook so delouse. The only way I would know is when everyone enjoys eating my food. There is this aunt I know who is a very close friend of our family, I would say that she hates cooking. One we ever all invited to their house for dinner. My family arrived there early and we saw that she couldn’t finish cooking dinner for us. I volunteered to help, and there I saw how stir one of her dish. It didn’t look too good, only because she was forcing herself to do all that. Then, as she was serving the dishes to all of us, I noticed the her curries looked messy. As I tasted them, the flavor was on one direction and the meat and vegetables were on the other direction. I usually enjoy food, but when I went to eat at her house, I didn’t even feel it. She came up to me to thank me for being such a helpful person, and that’s when she spilled out that she hates just everything about food. That’s when I realized that food cannot be enjoyed without passion and desire.

let's Research

Straggling is part of life; but straggling to create an annotated bibliography was too much for me. I hardly done any major research paper but this time there was no way to hide from it. It was more frustrating for me because I know my topic and what I need to look for but couldn’t find any relevant source or any proper idea. So, I forced myself to change my chosen topic realigning that I may get more information about the new topic. After spending four hours on the new topic I decide to go back to my old topic. Since then I found some relevant way to look for some books and articles. I went to the library database and found some important idea from Academic search premier and Jstor. My class mates also helped me to find some important article and books. It’s been a great experience for me. Now I know how to do research paper and how to look for scholarly sources.

Shall we??

Shall we compare our hearts to a garden -?
With beautiful blooms, straggling weeds
Shall we compare our eyes to the sky -?
With drizzle, shadows of rainbow come true
Shall we compare our mind to the sea -?
To its deepness, bluish wave flourish
Shall we measure our smile to the sunshine –?
When brightness pushes darkness
Shall we compare us to a new born baby –?
Like a swooping birds; caught peaceful moment

significance of the two stories

In Babette’s feast by Isak Dinesen and in Short Friday by Isaac Bashevis Singer we could fine more similarities than the differences. Both stories explain the significance and impact food has had on them through the story. in “Babette’s Feast” Dinesen seems to draw on her childhood and adult experiences to give the story depth, meanwhile in short Friday Shmul-Leibele is a simpleton, unsuccessful but honest in his job; although, he is not educated but he is expert at following the basic tenets of his religion.

The similarities in both Short Friday and Babette’s Feast are that they deal with thoroughly with pairs of characters. In Short Friday we have Shmul-Leible, Shoshe, Martine, and in Babette’s feast we have Philippa. On the other hand, the author’s first name was very tricky because it seems like same name. While, throughout the stories religions made a significant impact because in Babette’s Feast we meet a catholic women and a religious man and his two daughters, and In Short Friday we saw a religious husband and wife.

However, in both stories the food being appreciated many different ways. In Babette’s Feast, Babette uses all her lottery money for Martine, Philippa to show her creativeness and love for Martine and Philippa and in short Friday Shoshe cooks the delightful food she can do for her man. Another difference is that In Babette's Feast we saw a high class family but in Short Friday, Shmul-Leibele and Shoshe only lived on poor tailoring business.

Food is being very important to both authors because they used food, religion, sexuality, and many different thing to show their meaning of the stories.

“Food is uniquely portable of magic” graft...

Life made up by simple thoughts; food is what, creates magical plot. As a human being, we’re dragging out all the tricks and discovered the magic in food. In food we can possibly find all the ingredients of life meant for any species on earth such as knowledge, love, culture, communication, and nation, which lead us to a magical scenario. Food has magical properties for any creature’s that gives us proper satisfaction through our entire existence. However, between food and creatures there is magical relationship because without food nobody can be alive on this earth. Food is a magical enhancement for any creatures on earth which gives us the energy, knowledge, love, and ideas to maintain our daily lives. The book, Like Water for Chocolate, by Laura Esquivel and Odyssey by Homer, has many of these instances of magical relationship in food.
In general, food works as magic, especially when we need knowledge and energy to generate strength physically and mentally. In The Odyssey written by Homer, many instances which is noticed that mortals are nothing without the odysseys, the gods itself, and his magic to control everything because he did not have any magical power but still he was able to do anything alone. However, in this book, Odyseous played a major role in the lives of mortals. If Odyseous hadn't had any knowledge at that time, he and his warriors would have died in the cave to Cyclopes when Cyclopes went about eating two of Odyseous men. In that case, Odyseous used his magical track with the wine which put Cyclopes into sleep. Apart from that “food and magic” is always related because it is very appealing to the senses. Odyseous incredible self belief kept him alive and indeed he made it home to his family and his kingdom in Ithaca.
In Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel, “food and magic” are joined together with love. Tita’s magical emotions and love express through food when she couldn't stop crying while making a wedding cake for her sister who made the icing of the cake turned pink. However, the magic began while everyone ate the cake and started to throwing up and crying. On the other hand, when Tita cooked quail with “rose paddle sauce” which gave Tita’s sister Gertrudis a feeling of love. The food is magical and it causes others to become emotional. Just as the writer Laura Esquivel, has transferred love into her novel and Tita transferred love into her food, because this story is a way of expressing emotions, feelings and love for each other. Tita’s food is kind of magic that made people to react with Tita's emotion. “Just as a poet plays with words, Tita juggled ingredients and quantities at will, obtaining phenomenal results, and all for nothing; her best efforts were in vain” (p.69). Throughout this book, there have been many instances of magic where most of them were actually from Tita’s food. She tried to express her feelings through her food which gave magic’s whenever people ate her food. But she barely had happiness in her life.
In addition, Food has the magic to bring people closer to each other. When we smell food, we don’t really smell the food; we actually smell the magic of the food which force us to eat that particular food. We find the leverage to bring people together, using food. On any occasion, we need food to celebrate our special days. In our culture, food means a lot to us because without food all the events are meaningless. For example, in our culture, we mainly satisfy our guests with different types of food during parties or weddings. Therefore, if the foods are good that means the parties or weddings must be good as well. Another reason why we choose food is because the magic in food is very easily appreciated.
Indeed, it is very magical that we cannot survive without food because of the way its magic plays through our body and nothing else can replace food. Since, Tita and Odysseus showed the world how to track people by magic of the food; we would be able to see that more often as the time passed by. We all know what food means to us for our daily life. We begin the day with breakfast and end the day with dinner. If we are hungry we easily feel that we need to eat. Therefore, I believe food can be a magical tool in our daily life. Food can make anything possible and it can give us satisfaction through our life.

Originality of a Women

The Movie “Tortilla Soup” is mostly about a retired maxican-american chef Martin Naranjo and his increasable art in food. More or less he is a real artist of making dinner for his family. The actual story begins immediately thereafter with Martin making a traditional great afternoon dinner for his lovely three daughters Leticia, Carmen, Maribel Naranjo. Although, he is old and has lost his taste in food but never shy of making great meal for his grown up daughters. Eldest daughter Letitia, who has concealed her own romantic desire, realized something missing in her life; attractive and well organized woman Carmen is an intelligent and successful but fed up with her boyfriend; meanwhile, College student Maribel is growing up humor women but wants a steady man. However, out of all the characters in the movie I felt Carman by her original mature.

Carman originality is to give the impression of being forward who always look for opportunity with both hands. She is never shy of thinking one step further and creates her own career. She is the most beautiful of all the women in the movie. She is 21 century women where her modern lifestyle shows in her clothing and in her behavior. She is very talented lady who pleased her boyfriend and father with her won creative cooking. Her career would have been better if she had accepted her new job. At the beginning It seemed that she has a settle life with her boyfriend but all of a sudden she found that her boyfriend cheating on her. But she controls herself very well at that moment when she found her boyfriend with another woman which shows her calmness. Carman is offered a high-profile job in Barcelona, but undecided about accepting it. Indeed, at the end of the movie her father takes her to the airport for Barcelona but she returns home. Her elder sister Leticia doesn’t really like Carman much but they all have enough fun to break plate together. She is the only critic of her father food in the family.

Nevertheless, Carman dressed like a professional women but later she decide to follow in her father's footsteps and open up a restaurant of her own creative food. In many ways, the movie reflects the love of family and its food in the dramatically end in the Sunday family meals, meanwhile, Carman give us a happily end scenario in her own restaurant.
